ROOT CANAL

Root canal therapy refers to a treatment in which your Dentist removes the bacteria infection that has entered your tooth’s pulp or nerve chamber.  The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth.  While our dental office strives to treat infected teeth via root canals in office, at times, complex root canals may require referral to a local Endodontist.

ROOT CANAL CONSULTATION, PROCESS AND BENEFITS

During root canal treatment, following local anesthetic to numb the tooth, the inflamed or infected portion of the tooth or pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.

Root canal therapy treats the diseased areas of the tooth, but the treatment is not complete until the tooth is restored to a functional stage. Meaning a Crown, or a similar type of dental work is necessary to make the tooth fully operational again.

Root canals are fairly routine and may be necessary to alleviate pain and infection within teeth.  If not treated, abscesses can result or, over time, the infection could lead to the loss of the tooth and need for an extraction.
